Puno pozdrava,
Vladimir Vučićević.
Dear Vladimir,
Thank you for your interest in TESOL!
It is not true that you need to have a degree from an English-based university. Many of our graduates have been able to find a job quite easily once they completed the course. If you look on the left-hand side of the TESOL page you can read testimonials from our Belgrade graduates who are teaching abroad. Under 'visitor posts':
https://www.facebook.com/postaniprofesor/
The visa that you get depends exclusively on your employer, so it will be different for everyone. For example, I have a Z visa (I teach in Shanghai) but my roommate (who is also a Belgrade TESOL grad) came here on a different visa and then had it changed once she got to China. Others come on a tourist visa and then either go to Hong Kong to get their work visas or the employer takes care of it themselves, like I said, it just depends on the employer.
So, no, you do not need to have a degree from an English-based university. Having a degree in any subject from any school will only help you find a job, not hinder you. Global TESOL College offers all of its students a lifetime job guarantee through our job bank available only to our grads and our instructors who are in contact with thousands of schools all around the world.
Luckily for you, you want to work in China, where the demand for English teachers far exceeds the supply. Employers want to hear that prospective non-native teachers have near-native speaking abilities and grammar. My suggestion to you is, if you feel that your English is near-native level, then take the course and start applying for jobs while you are finishing the course. In one of our previous courses, we had a girl who left ONE WEEK after she finished the course. It happens pretty quickly, if you apply to ten jobs, you'll probably hear back from five or six of them within a couple of days of writing to them.
If you still have questions or concerns about the course or working abroad, please feel free to ask!
Thank you,
Natalija Markovic
