Posted December 19, 2006 Well, at first, mountian iz called Stara Planina (mt Old) and its highest peak is called Midžor . Then, let’s divide your trip into 3 parts : 1. From Niš to Kalna you can take a bus and I guess it’s not a problem. Kalna is very small town on the Pirot-Knjaževac road. 2. Babin Zub (Granma’s tooth) is a small touristic resort on Stara Planina, about 1650m above sea and 29 kms from Kalna. These 29kms are the most difficult part. I think there is no public transport so you’ll have to find worker's bus or try hitchhiking. I did that hitchhike, but I was veeery lucky, because the road is extremly empty although it's asphalt almost all the way. On Babin Zub there is one mountain lodge and one (clean & cheap it was) motel. About 100 meters above them, there is a bunch of nice rocky peaks – granma’s teeth themselves. 3. Path from Babin Zub to Midžor is about 7 kms long and it’s very easy to walk. In the summer it is possible to reach Midžor even by bicycle or jeep, so I‘m sure you won’t need any special equipment for hiking. It would be nice to have a map and I can send you one if you want. If you carry GPS (just for the case of fog, otherwise you won’t need it) maybe I can find you some traces or points. Posted December 19, 2006 Quote Just if you maybe know how hight the snow blanket is (or will be next week)? No, I don't know anything about it. Quote to Kalna from Niš you get whit bus via Knjaževac... No, from Niš to Kalna there is a path via Svrljig. And goin that way you get on the road Pirot-Knjaževac very near Kalna, then the bus goes a few kms left to Kalna, and on the other end of Kalna there is a way right (up the river, east) to Babin Zub. Try finding some traffic map of Serbia on net. If you dont find it, Ill send ya one. Reply
