Hi again guys,

As I read more I am becoming more interested in the East part of Serbia though I am not finding a lot of information.  Can anyone recommend places to see, things to do, even places to stay in East Serbia.  I am open to all sorts of travel and enjoy getting off-the-beaten-track, so if you think it might be interesting I'd like to know what it is, where it is, etc...

Also could anyone recommend a good map of Serbia and an English-Serbian dictionary?

Thanks again for all your help,

Dave

You can find plenty of detailed maps here. RS stands for Republic of Serbia, and SRJ means Serbia and Montenegro. Look for - for example - Zagubica and Bor regions. A lot of pics of eastern wilderness you can find at http://aleksandar.fotopic.net/.

I think there is not a lot of info about these mountains in english.

You can see some pics from Eastern Serbia in two of my travelogues: Kuchaj Mountains and Vratna Gates. "Naredna stranica" means "Next page". Everything is in Serbian, but there's plenty of photos.

If you find something interesting in the photos, ask about it and I'll explain how to get there and where to stay. Wherever you go, basically all you need to do is reach the nearby town, and make it your base for exploring the surroundings. Serbia is not big, so you should find the distances pretty easy to cover.

As for the dictionary, we have a very basic version of Serbian phrasebook on the website. I've seen phrasebooks for foreigners being sold in bookstores in Serbia, but I'm not sure about the quality (for example, the front page of one of them has the word "foreigner" spelled as "foreyner" in huge capital letters). That particular one is sold in the main post office in Novi Sad.

I've also seen more elaborate books on the subject, containing some grammar rules etc. I think you should have no problems finding them when you get here.
