The biggest city is Targu Jiu with approx 250.000 citizens and the other localities are mainly small cities and a lot of villages.

D.  Objectives and motivation

Please summarise the aims, objectives and motivations to host a volunteer. Give information how the volunteer project associates to the regular activities of the local host organisation and contributes to the development of the local community. If this is a short-term project, please justify this according to the User's Guide section D.4.

Aim:

To get the volunteers as the promoters and multipliers, for spurring European awareness and establishing bridges of communication in between sites in home country and placements in the area they are established

Objectives:

ˇ        To give assistance for the running of the Euro House Networking programme in Gorj county

ˇ        To raise the awareness of European identity

ˇ        To promote education for European citizenship

ˇ        To develop skills and abilities for the volunteer

ˇ        Raise the youngsters awareness in becoming active actors in the society

ˇ        To determine young people to give their free time for the benefit of other individuals and society in general, and in this way to promote active citizenship.

ˇ        Give the possibility to the young volunteer to become an effective youth leader

ˇ        Create awareness of personal, socio-cultural and national aspects of identity

ˇ        Develop a quality framework for informal educational activities

ˇ        Value other cultures and way of life

ˇ        Strengthen the sense of European identity

Motivation to host a volunteer:

On the verge of becoming an EU member, Romania is moving into a new phase of European development. In the past 15 years young people have been amongst those hardest hit by economic and social transformation processes in all parts of Romania. In a time of fundamental change, we need to develop the human potential, enabling young people to participate as fully as possible in cultural, economic, political and social life through developing a sort of European awareness coupled with community development.

This EVS project leads to the affirmation of coherent set of European democratic values and social practices which together respect both our similarities and our differences, leading to a sustainable community development in the youth field.

In this respect Youngsters without Borders worked on development of projects and programmes that will boost active participation and increase the awareness of young people towards being an European.

One of the projects which will consist of a placement base for the volunteers is called Euro House Network. The programme consists in developing a regional network between the municipalities  in Gorj county and enhance the involvement and participation of both the youngsters into the public life of their local communities  but also build a stronger, more efficient link in between Local Public Administration  and youth sector and to bring down to the local level the European dimension as a platform to foster active citizenship.

At present there are 11 municipalities from Gorj County involved in the EHN  (Targu Carbunesti, Musetesti, Tismana, Rovinari, Balteni, Crasna, Stanesti, Novaci, Turceni, Hurezani and  Bustuchin).

We selected one young person from each locality and trained them to become local facilitators in the youth field , facilitators that are working actively in each of their local community.

The volunteers were and still are a great resource in the development of the above mentioned project and we strongly wish to continue and give the sustainability to this project by hosting more young volunteers.

The support to be received from the volunteers is tremendous since they will work as local developers and multipliers in cooperation with the local facilitators .

Learning for European citizenship within this project has a specific importance for the volunteers as well as for the young people in the Euro House Network, their participation in shaping and building the future of their local community being an irreplaceable resource.

The project will be a learning experience, both for the volunteers and for our facilitators, mostly in the field of community development, European awareness, and cultural diversity, non formal education, helping the volunteers to develop skills and competences and exchange expertise.

i da li neko zna kako stici do pariza najjeftinije i koliko kosta taj put ?

hvala?? ::artist:?

UK-SCO 6.1  Earth Tribes I, Ullapool                                                                  10 March ? 24 March

6 volunteers

Earth Tribes I, Ullapool is based on a Leckmelm Farm in a beautiful part of NW Scotland. The aim is to develop an organic market garden using permaculture design,  and ecosystem enhancement.

It is a family run farm with three full time staff,  busy restoring a walled garden to produce and sell organic vegetables locally.  There is also a small number of livestock, rare breed cattle, sheep and pigs and one wild boar called Percy.  The Farm is being converted to the biodynamic agriculture method, as well as other small scale conservation projects: drystone walling, pier restoration and historic farm buildings.

In addition to the Farm there is a 50ha native woodland and 600 ha of conifer woodland.  We are hoping to start further woodland regeneration projects.

Work: The work will be revolve around multiple tasks to conserve and restore the surrounding eco-system: clearing bushes, beach clean, planting organic seeds, working in the organic market garden and dry-stone walling

Accommodation is in a holiday cottage, with bath, shower, kitchen.  Bedding is provided but a sleeping bag would be useful for a trip to the bothy.

Extra: Ullapool is in NW Scotland and requires travel to Glasgow, Edinburgh or Inverness and then travel by bus to Ullapool.

For information about Ullapool see http://www.ullapool .co.uk/

UK-SCO 6.2  Earth Connections Centre, Isle of Eigg                                            26 May ? 05 June

10 Volunteers

The Earth Connections Centre is a new sustainable energy education centre which aims to reconnect people with the earth by providing wilderness experiences, courses and practical workshops on sustainability issues.  The Centre is being converted from an old lodge house and will become an eco-friendly visitor centre.

Work: Come and help to build a solar water heater, work in the organic garden, help with the fruit and nut trees and create veggie beds.

Study: There will be theory as well as practical work on renewable energy, growing food, and workshops in non-violence, co-operative games/work and campaigning.

Accommodation is in a small cottage with running hot water, gas cooker, wood-burning stove, but no electricity.  There is a toilet and bath (shower available in near building).

Extra: Eigg is a beautiful island off the west coast of Scotland.  This involves travel to Glasgow (with  possibly an over-night stay), a bus to Mallaig and a boat to Eigg.

For information about Eigg see http://www.isleofei gg.org/

Hvala unapred!
