Hi!

We are travelling to Serbia in mid september for 3 weeks and were planning the following itinerary:

* 3 days in Belgrade

* Rent a car for 2 weeks:

  * 1 week in Tara Mountain

  * 1 week in Đerdap National Park‎

I was wondering if you could assist us with a few open questions that we have:

1. what is the weather in Belgrade/Tara/Derdap? should we bring warm clothes?

2. our main activity is hiking, do you recommend any other places to visit?

3. which village should we stay in for the week in tara and derdap? i thought to be in Mitrovac in tara and in Donji Milanovac for Derdap - we wish to rent an apartment for 2 persons(avg 20 euro seems to be decent?)

4. any other ideas for activities in the area

Thanks in advance!

Hi Nirr

I can help you with some info.

Bring some warm clothes,becouse weather in mid septembar get colder,and in mountains can get very cold,especially after the rains.

About hiking,I can recomend you two moutaines in my area(Prijepolje ,southwest Serbia),first is Sopotnica. There are  Hikers house at the top,where you can sleep    http://pekgora.wordpress.com/2010/06/21/сопотница-12-јуна/  there are some awesome waterfalls on top of Sopotnica

There is another moutain near Sopotnica-Jadovnik.You should know,that both mountains were used by two locals as a preparation for Mount Everest,and they climb it http://www.politika.rs/rubrike/Srbija/Kumovi-na-krovovima-svih-kontinenata.lt.html

Yes,you can pass with 20 euro for apartment.I hope I help you,good luck and welcome mate ;)

Thanks for the tip!

The mountains you mentioned, are there many hiking trails there? i can see it's about 2-2:30 hours drive from Mitrovac to that area so it's something worth doing as Mitrovac the home location for a week and then every day drive to a different location

Do you maybe have some information regarding thermal water? is there any rural one? like the river itself has the thermal hot water and not a real resort

Thanks again

There are lots of hiking trails,that even conects with other mountains.Here is the numbers of managers of hikers house in Sopotnica(two guys who climbed Mount Everest) Kontakt: Ilija Andrejić +381 64 158 83 77, Dragan Petrić +381 64 188 33 51 They can help you with all info.And numbers of hikers club in Prijepolje Kontakt telefoni: +38164 8289888

Yes,it`s good idea to use Mitrovac as a home location,if you find good apartments.

Regardin thermal waters,I really have no clue  :)

Mitrovac is the best choice for you. It is surrounded by forest, and you will enjoy there, for sure. Tara is one of the most beautiful mountains in Serbia. There are so many interesting things to see. And everything will be much easier for you if you go by car. If you are looking for a good place to stay, I can suggest you one cottage there, the place is really awesome and the owner is really a nice and helpful guy. I may give you his contact, if you need it, or I can ask him about availability in the period you would like to come. I'm not sure if he speaks English. I sent you a private message.

About the accommodation in Djerdap area, I would suggest you to rent a private house in the village Tekija. Almost all the people there rent their houses. Unfortunately, I don't have any contact there, but maybe there is someone else on this forum who can help you. One week there is maybe too much, so, I would suggest you to visit some other nearby places.

In general, 2 weeks by car is a long period, so you can visit many places in Serbia. Take a look on English version of our site, there you can find many useful information and suggestions for your trip.

Feel free to ask for any additional information!

And welcome to Serbia :)

Hey again,

Which village is better to stay in? Mitrovac or Kaluderske Bare?

For hiking, I would always choose Mitrovac :) Or, if you prefer some really remote place, great for hiking, but far from civilisation, then, think about Predov krst.

I will suggest you to visit both sides of Djerdap. Zou can make a circular rute. Enter Romania from Vojvodina district and get back to Sebian side of the river over the bridge near Turnuseverin.

There is also a good hicking path in eastern Serbia near town of Majdanpek. There is a lot of caves and canyons around town that is easyly reachable by car.

Tray to rent '' Lada Niva '' with autogas.
