Boštjan Videmšek ratni je reporter ljubljanskog dnevnog lista Delo i autor niza knjiga. Višedesetljetnu karijeru započeo je 1998. na Kosovu, a potom je izvještavao iz Afganistana, Iraka, Sudana, Sirije, Libije, DR Konga, Somalije, Pojasa Gaze, Pakistana, Središnje Azije i Egipta. Priče kojima se Videmšek bavi su krajnje raznolike: od prodaje beba u Ateni do Bolivije i iskopavanja litija, ključnog za proizvodnju baterija za mobitele. „Dečje novine” su bile pokretač brojnih međunarodnih akcija i saradnje. Sa Kinezima smo organizovali razmenu izložbi dečjih crteža. Od italijanskog „Paninija” smo dobili pravo izrade samolepljivih sličica koje smo plasirali u SSSR, Poljsku, Bugarsku i druge zemlje istočne Evrope. Za Angolu, Mali, Togo i Libiju smo štampali visokotiražne udžbenike, pa smo, samo za potrebe Angole, uposlili 23 štamparije od Skoplja do Ljubljane – priseća se Milovanović.

Ukrajince koji su evakuisani iz kineskog grada Vuhan, žarišta epidemije koronavirusa, dočekala je u domovini ljutita masa koja je razbijala prozore autobusa u kojima su bili, saopštila je policija.

Strahujući da će putnici doneti smrtonosni virus u zemlju, stotine ljudi - od kojih neki naoružani metalnim šipkama i kamenjem - protestovali su protiv njihova povratka u Novim Sanžarima u centralnoj Ukrajini, pokazuju snimci objavljeni na ukrajinskoj televiziji.

Trenutna situacija u Singapuru pokazuje kako singapurska vlada ozbiljno shvata i tretira lažne vesti, širenje panike, prevare koliko i sam virus. Tako na primer na zvaničnom sajtu ministarstva zdravlja:

- U real time-u demantuju lažne vesti sa socijalnih mreža i kojekakvih sajtova.

- U real time-u prenose informacije o obolelima i izlečenima.

- Prvi dan kad je počela masovna kupovina po prodavnicama, zabranili su kupovinu na veliko i krenuli sa kampanjom da nije kraj sveta i da je snabdevanje uobičajeno.

- Kad su krenule pomame za maskama i pojavile se neke za 10.000 SGD u nekim online prodavnicama - ti oglasi su momentalno skinuti, a vlada krenula da deli maske sa džabe.

- itd. itd.

Uopšteno, glavni način borbe pored karantina za obolele i uobičajenih mera opreza kao što su skeneri za temperaturu, su im dobra informaisanost stanovništa, siguran izvor istinitih vesti i ozbiljna borba protiv dezinformacija. Davno su shvatili da je panika gora od samog virusa.

By this account, COVID-19 is turning out to be a remarkably intelligent evolutionary adversary. By exploiting vulnerabilities in human psychology selectively bred by its pathogen ancestors, it has already shut down many of our schools, crashed our stock market, increased social conflict and xenophobia, reshuffled our migration patterns, and is working to contain us in homogenous spaces where it can keep spreading. We should pause to remark that COVID-19 is extraordinarily successful epidemiologically, precisely because it is not extremely lethal. With its mortality rate of 90%, for example, Ebola is a rather stupid virus: It kills its host — and itself — too quickly to spread far enough to reshape other species’ life-ways to cater to its needs. 

The bad news for you is that, if you live in a densely populated area, you are very likely to contract the coronavirus — if not this year, next year, or the year after as it undergoes its seasonal global migration pattern with its zoonotic cousins.

Svake godine četrnaestog dana listopada Romi iz Osaonice, naselja koje se naslanja na Trstenik, gradić na jugu Srbije, slave jedinstven praznik - Dan spasenja. Doktor Sava Stanojević 1942. godine spasio je od sigurne smrti cijelu romsku zajednicu sela Osaonica, koja je u to vrijeme brojala oko 300 duša.

I didn’t understand this when I lived in America, but you need to wash your butt after you poop. You can’t just wipe it until the paper looks clean. If you got poop on any other surface you wouldn’t just wipe it off, you’d wash it. Your butt deserves the same dignity.

Coronavirus’s economic danger is exponentially greater than its health risks to the public. If the virus does directly affect your life, it is most likely to be through stopping you going to work, forcing your employer to make you redundant, or bankrupting your business.

This is what you can conclude:

Excluding these, countries that are prepared will see a fatality rate of ~0.5% (South Korea) to 0.9% (rest of China).

Countries that are overwhelmed will have a fatality rate between ~3%-5%

Put in another way: Countries that act fast can reduce the number of deaths by a factor of ten. And that’s just counting the fatality rate. Acting fast also drastically reduces the cases, making this even more of a no-brainer.

The locust crisis that has now reached 10 countries could carry on to endanger millions more people, forecasters have said.

Climate change created unprecedented conditions for the locusts to breed in the usually barren desert of the Arabian gulf, according to experts, and the insects were then able to spread through Yemen, where civil war has devastated the ability to control locust populations.
